| Our Vision..... As an outreach ministry of Southwind Fellowship Baptist Church, bicycle messengers for Christ(bmx) began by accident. In the beginning, the local youth group had several members who regularly competed in the sport of BMX(bicycle motorcross) and in order to spend time with them and their families for the purpose of ministry, I ended up at the local BMX track. I soon discovered that there were many individuals involved in this fun and exciting sport. As a ministry, bmX became an opportunity to reach out to riders, family, friends, and spectators with the good new of Jesus Christ. The next thing I know, I'm racing bicycles! Not only have we looked for ways to reach out to local families but God has opened doors for us to travel with a team made up of Christian students from the area to take the message of Christ to other BMX tracks across the Midwest. bmX has received financial support from Southwind Fellowship Church, the Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Association, the Kansas-Nebraska State Convention of Southern Baptist, and the North American Mission Board. This ministry has received recognition for taking a creative approach to sharing the gospel. It is our prayer that this ministry will inspire and encourage others to share the good news of Jesus Christ wherever they may find themselves and to meet people where they are to bring them into a personal relationship with Christ. | Biblical Basis..... Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations..." This passage is identified as the 'Great Commision' and speaks of taking the gospel into all parts of the world...even a race track. I Corinthians 9:24-27 "Do you not know that in a race all the runners, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize." The Apostle Paul makes these statements comparing our lives to a competition like an athlete preparing for a race. With our bmX ministry we are literally in a race not only on our bikes, but in a Spiritual sense as well. Hebrews 12:1-2 "...and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us..." While we compete in a physical race and strive to do our best, we seek to complete the race of life and strive to share Jesus who is our example. Isaiah 52:7 "How beautiful...are the feet of those who bring good news...who proclaim Salvation..." It just so happens that our little feet are on bicycle pedals. |
| Mission Plan..... Through the efforts of our ministry in making a Christ-like presence at the events we attend, we hope to show that the love of Jesus Christ reaches even as far as a BMX track. Through the efforts of providing a cool drink to participants and fans, and other items with our team/ministry logo as well as making available gospel tracks and stickers, this outreach has the potential to reach out to racers and families. Our ministry has had opportunities to host trackside Bible studies locally and even host Sunday morning worship services at the National events we attend. God has truly opened doors for ministry in the sport of BMX. It is our desire to go where God sends us and use whatever means available to share the love of Christ. We also want racers and fans to know that you can love God and still enjoy BMX racing! |
